Energy-saving and environmentally friendly cooling is possible!  We offer both air-cooled and water-cooled cooling units for the laboratory and pharmaceutical industries. These are environmentally friendly cooling appliances.

In our current product portfolio, we use environmentally friendly R290 (propane) in recirculating chillers up to a cooling capacity of ~1000W.

R290 – Future-Proof Refrigeration Technology for Sustainable Recirculating Chillers

The requirements for modern refrigeration technology are evolving rapidly. With F-Gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573, the European Union aims to progressively reduce and ultimately phase out the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases with high global warming potential (GWP). For manufacturers and users of refrigeration equipment, this means that investing in environmentally responsible and future-proof refrigerants is becoming increasingly important.

For this reason, Van der Heijden Labortechnik GmbH has deliberately chosen the natural refrigerant R290 (propane) for its recirculating chillers. R290 has an exceptionally low global warming potential of just 3, making it one of the most environmentally friendly refrigerants available and well below the limits set by current and future European environmental regulations. Unlike many conventional fluorinated refrigerants, R290 is not subject to the phase-down schedules and quota restrictions imposed by the F-Gas Regulation.

In addition to its environmental benefits, R290 offers excellent thermodynamic properties. It provides high energy efficiency, outstanding heat transfer characteristics, and reliable cooling performance across a wide temperature range. As a result, recirculating chillers using R290 can often operate more efficiently while maintaining the high performance required in laboratory and industrial applications.

For our customers, this translates into long-term investment security. Equipment designed around R290 already complies with upcoming regulatory requirements, minimizing the risk of costly future retrofits, refrigerant shortages, or service restrictions associated with phased-out refrigerants.
